Set in the New Forest on the banks of Beaulieu River, The Palais des Vaches is a unique and enchanting art gallery created during the pandemic by Exbury Garden's president Nick de Rothschild and his wife Caroline. Once an agricultural milking parlor, the historic building has been lovingly transformed into a stunning exhibition space and private event venue.
The Palais' three interconnecting rooms take visitors on a journey through a diverse range of artworks, where celebrated local artists and emerging talents exhibit a variety of mediums, including paintings, photography, sculptures, and ceramics.
The Palais proudly showcases work by over 50 local and national creatives including 40 celebrated local and national artists, including Andy Baerselman, Stewart Beckett, Jill Berelowitz, Martyn Brewster, Julie Collins, Jackie Giron, John Ilsley, Long Ly, William Pounds, Kim Thompson, Michael Turner, Chris Whittaker, Claire Wiltsher, and our hosts, Caroline and Nick de Rothschild.
The Palais is set in the Exbury countryside, offering breathtaking panoramas of the Beaulieu River and The Solent.
Palais Art Prize
We are inviting artists to be part of a new chapter in our gallery's history. We are delighted to announce the launch of the inaugural Palais Art Prize 2026, a competition dedicated to the fundamental power of the artist's eye. At its heart, this prize celebrates observation. Whether you capture the human figure, the shifting landscape, the quiet intimacy of a still life or just the way you see the world, we are looking for works that demonstrate a strong foundation in observation —yet interpreted in your own unique voice. The competition is open to artists aged 18+, we welcome submissions in drawing, painting, printmaking, and mixed media. Prizes include a cash pot of £850 and an opportunity for selected artists to exhibit at the Palais des Vaches.
