Gaynor Leverett-Jaques

I am often inspired by nature, magnifying tiny aspects to create large abstract, brightly coloured oil paintings, my work then contrasts dramatically by taking slightly obscure photographs or creating detailed sketches. I work in extremes of small and intricate, large and black and white or vivid colour, but always with underlying warmth.

My vibrant and unique oil paintings are inspired by British plants and gardens. Working in oil paints, using the alla prima (wet-on-wet) technique, my paintings focus on the bright, bold colours traditionally found in British gardens. Much inspiration comes from my own garden, (including my 'Late Blooming' series), or from visiting larger country gardens. I have lived and worked in the West Country since the early 1980s and love capturing the area in paintings, sketches and photographs, from my off-centre viewpoint and in my own distinctive style.
