I am a self-taught artist. Sculpture and painting have been my main passion and therapy since early childhood. At school, aged seven, I would ‘sell’ my drawings to others in the playground for sweets and ‘build’ sculptures at home with mum’s broom adding eyes, arms etc. with other found items! Making art made me unbelievably happy, it still does.
Growing up in the Shropshire countryside on a small holding, I was lucky to be immersed in nature, surrounded by animals and beautiful scenery but home was quite secluded so I made art and wrote poetry to entertain myself in my spare time.
I have owned a hairdressing business, a wedding sculpture business and was a tutor at local colleges.
I love something different and have created sculptures from mixed media, porcelain and sugar! (for my then wedding sculpture business). Commissions came from Vogue magazine, celebrities and large companies. My sugar sculptures appeared in many UK art galleries and featured on BBC TV
After retiring I returned to my first love, hand built, coiled and sculpted clay. I aim to avoid realism, designing quirky pieces often with some steampunk or puppet details.
In my studio in Worcestershire, I use slab building and coiling techniques with stoneware clay to create wall hanging plaques, animals and stylized ladies, 15cm to over 70cm tall for home and garden décor. I finish pieces with oxides and usually underglazes
Each piece is a 'one off'
