Joanne Last

Joanne Last originally trained as a classical pianist, but coming from a family of artists, she has pursued art and music side by side throughout her career. Her predominantly abstract paintings are intuitive and experimental, drawing inspiration from urban, rural and coastal landscapes. Working quickly and freely, she layers paint, builds texture and embraces unexpected colour interactions, creating richly worked surfaces that feel alive with movement and energy.

“I don’t plan ahead as to what the finished piece might look like. I have to step off the creative edge in order to fall into something that engages me. My best work always comes from a place of risk and experiment.”

Joanne has exhibited extensively at the Mall Galleries in London, and with the Pastel Society, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours and the Society of Women Artists.
