Local Landscape Artist.
I am greatly inspired by the beauty of the East Sussex landscape, especially the rolling hills of the South Downs, the meanderings of the Cuckmere River and the Seven Sisters cliffs. I enjoy the specific challenges that it offers as subject matter and hope to convey this sense of peace in my paintings which have now become my main focus.
A self-taught artist with a passion for colour, I like to look beyond the obvious to capture something unique with an ironic twist.
From my studio at home, I work primarily in acrylics, exploring the art of abstract realism, establishing a link between the reality of nature and the imagined. Acrylics allow for the freedom of layering, building shape and form, giving an opacity and intensity to colour, which is very important to me. Walking my dog amongst this wonderful landscape, I gather photographs and once home, make rough sketches and use these ideas to create vividly-coloured canvases.
