Abstract Expressionism inside Geometric Abstraction
Instead of laying down colour with sweeping brushstrokes I corral it into hard-edged shapes. My work is figurative in as far as it refers outwards to emotions, psychology and pop art colours.
I use hue as a 'material' as a musician might use notation, each colour and shape affecting all the others. My paintings can be enjoyed all at once or can be entered at any point to create unique colour symphonies.
Texture is also important as the colour is built up through multiple layering to give my paintings a tactile quality like a living skin. Close up this makes them more of a contemplative object than an optical experience.
