Surrounded by nature and living on the site of her family’s horticultural business, Rachel draws inspiration from her own extensive garden and the wonderful drama of the Cornish coastline. She says, “I absorb visual information and then I paint it out of me. My work has changed over the years. This is how it should be. We constantly evolve as we travel through our lives and this reflects in my art”.
Photography and printmaking play a large part in her artistic process. Photography (or part of a photograph) is used mostly as a reference or a starting point. Rachel’s work also embraces printmaking; she cuts her own stencils from her homemade printed papers. These techniques then harmonise with drawing and painting, resulting in surprising textures and abstract motifs.
