Being lucky enough to live in deepest darkest Suffolk with green rolling valleys and ancient meadows the natural world has always inspired my art.
Coming from a botanical art background taking plants and flowers into 3d has been a real joy.
The art of bas-relief enables a plants very fine details to be celebrated, and their structures and forms explored.
A clay base is laid, the plants are then pressed into the clay-then removed, a frame is then pressed into the clay around the design and then plaster is poured over to set into all the tiny details. I love how the process captures plants frozen in time like fossils, after the day or the flower has faded.
