Stewart’s stunning metre square canvases take their cue from the colours of the sea and coastline; local fishing boats and beach huts. The latter’s layers of once vibrant paint, relentlessly battered by the sea or faded by time and the elements, inspire Stewart’s striking colour combinations and use of texture.
Stewart began painting whilst running Westover Hall in Milford-on-Sea, one of the first boutique hotels to open in the UK. Prior to this, Stewart enjoyed an illustrious career in the fashion industry, creating advertising and PR campaigns for luxury brands including Alexon and Aquascutum. Recent projects include creating the Royal College of Art Spirit of Fashion Awards, rebranding the Sloane Club, consultancy for Frieze Arts Fair and designing the Spring 2013 collection for Peridot, London.
Stewart has held solo and group exhibitions in London, and co-owns Coastal Gallery with Bev Saunders.
