Trudi Lloyd Williams

I specialise in projects that are inspired by places and communities particularly waterways from coastal salt water to inland freshwater streams to urban man made canals. My work is site specific; utilising research, collaboration, community skills and design through to final installation.

My dual interests in materials and recycling has frequently led to the design and production of new materials either utilising or incorporating recycled products that are site specific.

I create paintings that are inspired by environmental issues, these are sold through galleries, recently at St Barbe Museum and Gallery Lymington.

Recently I am worked with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust on a project I created 'Spiny Seahorses and Ripping Yarns' for their Secrets of the Solent.

In 2019 I worked collaboratively on an International Environmental Art Project in Greece; 'Lefkaxit' raising awareness about Plastic Marine Pollution in the significantly important Wetlands in Lefkada. (See 'Lefkaxit' page for details.)

'Jellytastic' a project in 2014 I created for the Wildlife Trusts of Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Sussex focusing on jellyfish populations and marine plastics, particularly plastic bottles and the effect they are having on our marine wildlife. The aim of the project was to raise awareness about local marine life through sculpture and help people care for our seas. The community collected thousands of used plastic bottles that were transformed into a huge, suspended jellyfish sculpture that toured the south coast and culminated with an exhibition at the ONCA (One Network for Conservation and the Arts) gallery Brighton.

I am commissioned as an art consultant by art centres, galleries and environmental organisations to create and develop specific projects that use art as a catalyst and engage with local communities and their environment. Commissions have included work for the New Forest National Park Authority assisting them in securing a large Heritage Lottery Award to prevent the loss of rural skills within the New Forest and a project for Transition Town Romsey ‘Amplifying the Test’ focusing on the world renown River Test at Romsey.

I am an experienced artist working individually, collaboratively and as lead artist.

I managed studios in the retail sector for fifteen years.

I was a Trustee on the board for ArtSway; the Contemporary Art Gallery and Studios in the New Forest from March 2013 to 2017.

Frequently I am involved in sourcing local businesses and artisans to construct and install work, building and developing local networks, leading to a cross fertilisation of ideas and minimising waste and energy.
