The Lanarkshire Art Scene

Compass Gallery

Founded in 1969, Compass Gallery is one of Scotland’s longest established contemporary art galleries.

It is renowned for is support of talented new graduates as well as more established artists and it presents a monthly programme of contemporary exhibitions including one-man shows, mixed themed shows and our celebrated New Generation Show. The New Generation shows which takes place immediately after the Art School degree shows are especially noteworthy. Without fail every year since 1969 the gallery has travelled to Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow scouting out fresh talent and providing added encouragement to art graduates giving them their first ever taste of the outside gallery world. The Scottish galleries scene is now so lively, that it’s easy to forget the pioneering work done by Compass. Christmas Shows, New Generation Shows, paying by instalment; all these are now taken for granted and have been adopted by galleries nationwide. Yet Compass Gallery did them all first.

The gallery has a very friendly atmosphere, where the informed staff can share their knowledge, enthusiasm and understanding to all visitors.

We have a full, imaginative and high quality programme of exhibitions that we change from month to month. If you would like to be a part of our mailing list then contact us with your email details
