Primarily, Rob works in acrylic paint and ink, collage and mixed media. The acrylics are applied using rollers, shaped pieces of wood, card and a variety of found materials. His collage elements are created from torn or cut tissue paper, newsprint and magazine illustrations, with additional details added in oil and chalk pastels.
Like many artists, his inspiration comes directly from the subject matter. He finds great satisfaction in experimenting with colour, materials and technique, and realism sits low on his list of intentions. Because of the way he applies collage, paint and ink, the final outcome is never fully predictable. Along the way, accidents occur, unexpected colours appear and unique shapes emerge — all contributing to the spontaneity and character of his work.
